Pelvis and Hip Bone - human evolution

Click on picture for better view

Homo Erectus and Homo Neanderthal

Beside the large brain another evidence of human evolution is the hip bone and pelvis. Knuckle walkers have a flat pelvis while distance walkers have a more horizontal pelvis for supporting the upper body. Bent over apes mainly climbed trees. They need less support for walking and more for grasping and climbing.

The earth went through a major drought millions of years ago and it is believe this favored walking upright because the rain forest in Africa were disappearing. Going long distances required the ability to walk upright because knuckle walking was quite expensive energy-wise. Natural selection was favoring distance walkers. They could find food. The great apes remained local, but humans left Africa and travelled to Europe and Asia.

Human - Gorilla - Chimpanzee - Orangutan - Gibbon
Note the pelvis and hip bones. One other feature is how the legs bend inward for humans.

The famous fossil Lucy shows the bottom half as human and the top half as ape.

  1. I find evolution fascinating. However, I think you're introduction is just as stupid as many christians. WHY must religion disprove science and WHY does science also feel a need to disprove and disrespect God? You know, SPIRITUALITY AND SCIENCE CAN CO-EXIST! You're both being childish->Don't pursue science just to spite God's followers just like early Christians said people were 'stupid' for thinking that the universe revolved around the sun when they felt they 'knew it revolved around the earth'..just like YOU 'KNOW' you have all the answers and Christians are the stupid ones-[if Christians would have kept an open mind that GOD MAY USE SCIENCE AND therefore THEORIES, like evolution (which is also a theory and is just as unprovable as God]it is possible for a higher life force and if He is all powerfule why can't He use science AS PART OF HIS PLAN OF ACTION-(if He made all things including science, why would science disprove him? Why would your made up theories be any better than what you feel Christians' made up theories are?), just like if SCIENTISTS would keep an open mind to the same or other theories and possibilities, IMAGINE what we could accomplish as united; you're all cutting off your noses to spite your faces and again just being childish. Instead of belittling others to make yourselves feel 'high and mighty' and 'oh-so smart, let's pat ourselves on the back for being so incredibly omnicient about knowing everything', realize you're acting just as 'holier than thou' than the worst religious freak I've ever met. You're no better than anybody else and neither am I. Just present the facts and keep an open mind, you'd be surprised at what a better impact you'd have on the readers to believe your argument if you didn't judge others' beliefs and vice versa; they just might not judge YOU and have an open mind to YOUR theories if you'd not be so closed minded and insulting to other possibilites. I know you'll toss aside my remarks (because you obviously have found the missing link in LUCY and you've replaced God in your own mind, you've got it all figured out) but TRY to keep your mind open to possibilites. If you don't, then REALLY, what kind of scientist are you? Judgemental, oppressive, and close-minded? Or are you a scientist open to expanding your studies/theories further? YES natural adaptation is proven, and therefore has happened improving the possibility of evolution, but does it disprove a GOD? No, but if you think so, find a better argument, as evolution does NOT disprove God, just as the Bible never said that the universe revolved around the earth (but for some reason early Christians believed it was CRAZY to think it didn't) don't be crazy in thinking you've got all the answers either. One day a new theory will come into being and so you can start being receptive to other ideas now, or you'll be JUST LIKE THOSE EARLY STUPID religious fanatics and fight for a proven wrong theory. In closing I've said my piece, GREAT article, you just could have left out the insults and left us ALL with a enlightening experience by reading your work. You're smart, just don't put all your faith in theories....new ones always come along..but focus on facts, be nice to others, and take others seriously if YOU want to be taken seriously!:) Thanks for allowing me to partake in commenting, may not be what you wanted to hear but I just thought constructive critism is always helpful on a journey to truth. 'WHAT IS TRUTH?' asked Pontious, well let's find out together and NO MORE JUDGING ALL YOU DIE HARD SCIENTIST AND RELIGIOUS FANATICS!!

  2. dude, take a chill pill.
I used to be one of those christians. evolution is not about god. Not sure why you need to make it about that. christians are the ones who reject it.

  3. @ex-minister1, Agreed. There is no place for a deity in science. Science is all that matters...when in comes to human advancement.

@Anonymous, Settle down. Religion, god, faith...all crap...period. Even if there is a god, I am sure he is nothing like us, and he certainly does not exist within our bibles or churches.

Obviously evolution is true, as we're still evolving. Religion hasn't proven one single thing to be true within their faith-belief ideologies for the last 2000 years.
