May The Force Be With You

Conservapedia is Wikipedia for conservatives. They don't like the Bible the way it is translated, not conservative enough. Apparently King James was a gay-commie-liberal. The Living Bible has an evolutionary bias. The NIV has a pro-abortion bias. Wow!

They list the reasons they want to create a new translation:
  • supported by conservative principles, the project can be bolder in uprooting and excluding liberal distortions
  • the project can adapt quickly to future threats from liberals to biblical integrity
  • the ensuing debate would flesh out -- and stop -- the infiltration of churches by liberals pretending to be Christian, much as a vote by legislators exposes the liberals
  • this would debunk the pervasive and hurtful myth that Jesus would be a political liberal today
  • an unbiased and truthful Bible is of immeasurable value to society
It is a myth that Jesus would be liberal AND THEY ARE UNBIASED. Good one.

The don't like Luke 23:34 where Jesus on the cross says about his persecutors "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." Too wimpy, so they just drop it from their version. They say they know that some of the people did know what they were doing. Amazing. They must have a time machine and are able to read minds and know more than Jesus.

Here is a entertaining translation by them. They don't like calling it the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit. They prefer Yoda's term.

Luke 4:1 - King James Version
And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness

Luke 4:1 - Conservapedia translation
Filled with the force of God, Jesus returned from Jordan and was led by God's Spirit into the desert

Conservapedia Translation of Luke

Yes, the force is strong with this one. Christians always have an agenda. Conservatives take it to a new level.

Wailing Wall

A CNN journalist heard about a very old Jewish man who had been going to the Western Wall to pray, twice a day, every day, for a long, long time.

So she went to check it out. She went to the Western Wall and there he was, walking slowly up to the holy site.

She watched him pray and after about 45 minutes, when he turned to leave, using a cane and moving very slowly, she approached him for an interview.

"Pardon me, sir, I'm Rebecca Smith from CNN. What's your name?

"Morris Feinberg," he replied.

"Sir, how long have you been coming to the Western Wall and praying?

"For about 60 years."

"60 years! That's amazing! What do you pray for?"

"I pray for peace between the Christians, Jews and the Muslims."

"I pray for all the wars and all the hatred to stop."

"I pray for all our children to grow up safely as responsible adults, and to love their fellow man."

"How do you feel after doing this for 60 years?"

"Like I'm talking to a fuckin' wall."

God of the Gaps a Bad Argument

from Greta Christina's Blog:
"Science doesn't understand everything" is a terrible argument for religion. Supernatural explanations for the world have been replaced by natural ones thousands of times. It's never once happened the other way around. So if we don't currently understand something, why would we assume that it's probably supernatural? Pass it on: if we say it enough times to enough people, it may get across.

Earthquake in D.C area - Sign of Jesus Coming?

Matthew 6-14, Jesus said:
You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

A sign of the end of the world is earthquakes. I am fascinated why people believe these prophecies. They say it proves that the Bible is true and therefore God is true. But when you take a hard look at what is being predicted you realize that is it so hollow that a charlatan would say it.

To illustrate my point I looked at the United States Geological Survey's (USGS) website.

What is the likelihood a earthquake will happen today?
There's a 100 percent chance of an earthquake today. Though millions of persons may never experience an earthquake, they are very common occurrences on this planet. So today -- somewhere -- an earthquake will occur.

Stating that an earthquake is going to occur today is not really "predicting earthquakes". To date, they cannot be predicted. But anyone, on any day, could make this statement and it would be true. This is because several million earthquakes occur annually; thereby, thousands occur each day, although most are too small to be located. The problem, however, is in pinpointing the area where a strong shock will center and when it will occur.

Earthquake prediction is a future possibility, though. Just as the Weather Bureau now predicts hurricanes, tornadoes, and other severe storms, the NEIC may one day issue forecasts on earthquakes. Earthquake research was stepped up after the Alaska shock in 1964. Today, research is being conducted by the USGS and other federal and state agencies, as well as universities and private institutions. Earthquake prediction may some day become a reality, but only after much more is learned about the earthquake mechanism.

If you look closely at the other signs of the end they prove nothing and they all got to be awful, real awful. Not any happy predictions, just more misery. Thank you Jesus.

Bird Brains

We think as humans we are so special and a key feature is speech. Here is a NOVA special only 13 minutes long that shows how birds have a similar pattern to what we know as language. Baby birds learn their songs from their parents. There is even stuttering among birds.

He Did It All For You

The Band A Perfect Circle and the song Judith.

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never ever choose to be
Oh so many ways for me to show you how your savior has abandoned you

Fuck your god
Your lord, your Christ
He did this
Took all you had and
Left you this way
Still you pray, never stray, never
Taste of the fruit
Never thought to question why

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you broken down and paralyzed
He did it all for you
He did it all for you

Oh so many ways for me to show you how your dogma has abandoned you

Pray
To your Christ, to your god
Never taste of the fruit
Never stray, never break, never
Choke on a lie
Even though he's the one who
Did this to you
Never thought to question why

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ as if He knows the reasons why
He did it all for you
He did it all for you
Did it all for you

What Did Lions Eat Before Man Fell?

The Bible says there was no death before Eve listened to a talking snake and ate the "apple" and then got Adam to eat it. The Fundies don't believe in macro-evolution and the kinds we see today have always been. So, what did the carnivores eat? Can you see a lion chewing on an apple or some spinach? Also, doesn't the fruit or vegetable die when you eat it? How was there not death in the Garden of Eden? Wonder how they bend that one cuz you know they love to bend the stories to fit reality and would never consider seeing reality for what it is.

Also Evolution is a Theory which is in non-scientific terms is a fact. There is no higher degree of certainty in science. It is because science is an open and humble profession. Religion on the other hand KNOWS everything. No humility even though that is what they claim they are. So, what is the story of Creation in a science term. It is no better than a hypothesis and has been discredited. It is falsifiable. The earth is clearly much older than 6000 years. Every part of science shows that. But who am I talking about? These are the same people who refused to believe the earth was not the center of the universe. The Bible says so and it says the earth doesn't move and has its foundation set on pillars. They stopped taking the Bible literal when they could do no other. They are taking to reality screaming and kicking. These people have made up their minds and do not want to be confused with the facts.

What A Christian Course On Logic Look Like

If you haven't seen it, it is worth checking out

Christian Gospel Is Extortion

I read this on the Rational Response Squad and thought it was brilliant.
I had a discussion with an evangelical Christian yesterday. I asked him if, according to the Bible, the act of extortion is wrong. He said emphatically "YES!". I asked him if ANY act of extortion is wrong, to which he again answered "YES!".

I then compared what the Mafia does when it offers you an offer you cannot refuse. If you accept the offer, you live a comfortable life and have money, and if you reject it, you find yourself in the bottom of the river with concrete shoes.

I then said..."What is the difference of the Mafia offering you a deal you cannot refuse and the Bible saying, "Accept Jesus...or you go to hell?"

The Christian gave me a 'Deer caught in the headlights look'. He said..."it is not the same"...I answered..."How is it not?...For that matter, how is any religion not?"

He tried to dance around the white elephant in the middle of the room that he did not want to talk about that I just pointed out.

In Jeebus We Trust - The Rest Of You Can Leave

How fearful. They must secure their little word by changing everyone else around them.

In my life I could throw a stone in any direction and hit one of these types. I am even related to a bunch of them. Very common here in the south.

Wonder if we should have a campaign to mark "In God We Trust" on the dollar bills to anything else like what this guy did. He crossed it out.
But how about
"In je-Zeus We Trust"
"In Ourselves We Trust"
"In Cognito We Trust"
"In No God We Trust"
"In God Crazy People Trust"

Any suggestions?

Here is the simplest change I can think of

Prayers In Schools - not just any prayer

This happened in Congress last year. When they say In God We Trust or we need prayers in schools it is not just any god or any prayer. It must be to Jeebus. The founding father's idea of the separation of church and state is obviously important.
