The most obvious and yet most damning reason against Religion is that it is man made. Here is a great website that gives 18 reason why Christianity is man made. He makes the case that Christian apologist have arguments against them but they only satisfy the believer. All they need is one bent and barely stable rusty nail to hang onto to be satisfied. I recall buying such things when I was a Christian, but deep down inside, something just told me they really were flimsy defenses and happily for me they won they day. Good-bye cognitive dissonance. It is no wonder so many youtube videos made by Christians block the vote, block leaving a comment or you must wait for their approval. Doesn't that sound like fear? They cannot bear the truth. On the flip side the videos done by atheist allow the free flow of comments. This is all true for blogs as well.
The Evidence For Christianity
As Mark Twain said, "It is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled."
The 18 arguments showing Christianity is man-made. I had added some of my thoughts here.
1. The flawed Bible
2. Jesus and Paul expected the apocalypse very soon even in that generations lifetime.
3. Converting a local god into a universal god, who heretofore left millions unaware.
4. No evidence to the historicity of Jesus beyond the New Testament.
5. Christian refusal to learn from new evidence and recite old arguments.
6. Prophecies of Jesus retrofitted into the Old Testament and poorly at that. The book of Matthew is quite flawed for me in particular.
7. The flimsy argument the NT was written by eye-witnesses. My favorite is the 500 who were resurrected when Jesus died and they are unnamed but apparently told everyone and yet not even one of them is named or has a book written by them.
8. The flawed argument that people will only give their lives for that which is true. No. They only need to be convinced its true. That doesn't make it true. The 9/11 terrorists flying into the World Trade Center is sufficient to dismiss that.
9. The mumbo jumbo about crowbarring Jesus into divinity where now the one god is three. That wasn't introduced until the late 4th century.
10. Christian apologist practice bait and switch tactics. They argue for the existence of god that could be used by any religion and then supposedly having you convinced they assume that proves their god, which is does not. It could just as easily apply to Thor, Odin, Vishnu or Enki.
11. In order to believe Christianity literally they are forced to believe the world is only 6000 years old and the arguments they use to ignore evidence is astonishing.
12. The obvious human endeavor to determine which books belonged in the Bible. They had to choose out of hundreds of books which one was god inspired. They was a long period of dispute and then once settled the command went out to destroy those books not in the canon. There is nothing awe inspiring about that process. This was done under the Roman Catholic reign, which many Protestants would not be happy about. Interestingly enough the gospels were unnamed for years until someone decided to give them a church leader's name (e.g. apostle) to provide clout. This was typical in ancient times. Additionally in comparing manuscripts of the New Testament there were thousands of errors, omissions and even additions so much so the author of Revelation gave a stern warning against the practice. A perfect god could have been more hands on.
13. The account of the death and resurrection of Jesus, the only thing that matters in Christianity, is contradictory when you read the 4 gospels side by side.
14. It is obvious from the style of writing that the gospel of John & Revelation were not the same authors. Revelations almost didn't make it into the NT (which frankly would have been great to cut down on all the nuts attracted to it), but they made the argument to accept it into the NT because they said it was written by the same author as the gospel of John which actually is not the case.
15. The author of the book of Revelation makes no claim about his cryptic prophecies being way off in the future but meant it to be applicable to his times. Meanwhile, generation after generation of Christians say it is for their time.
16. Christian history and particularly when Christianity is in power they torture and murder those who don't believe as they do. Sounds like a local god, doesn't it? Here in the U.S. they show the same proclivity to oppress others that don't believe as they do (e.g the laws against gays and abortion). A taste of things to come if they continue. Their local god gets pissed at those who don't agree with him, but somehow he is unable to take care of it himself. All-powerful or imaginary?
17. You shall know them by their fruits Jesus said. Yet morally speaking there is no difference between an atheist and a Christian or any other group of people who believe differently. How is it the one nation under god was one of the last to abolish slavery. And then there was and is the continual race hatred. Also, why did the loving Christians wipe out about every Native American populations? Is this the country they want to get us back to? For the answer ask a gay person.
18. Why are there so few details on heaven besides eternity bowing before god. Why is hell easier to understand?
God is all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, all-wise, but he NEEDS money - George Carlin
The evidence for God is only the shadow cast by those who must believe in magic and want to control others He sacrificed himself to himself to appease himself then burned nearly all of those he did it for. Imagine No Religion

When Churches Ruled
When the churches literally ruled society, the human drama encompassed:
(a) slavery
(b) the cruel subjection of women
(c) the most savage forms of legal punishment
(d) the absurd belief that kings ruled by divine right
(e) the daily imposition of physical abuse
(f) cold heartlessness for the sufferings of the poor
(g) as well as assorted pogroms ('ethnic cleansing' wars) between rival religions, capital punishment for literally hundreds of offences, and countless other daily imposed moral outrages. . . .
It was the free-thinking, challenging work by people of conscience, who almost invariably had to defy the religious and political status quo of their times, that brought us out of such darkness

Bible - message in a bottle
The early am is when my mind is most active. I don't know how the thought joined but the Police's song Message in a Bottle and how God supposedly communicates to the world linked. God could easily - being God and all - talk to us directly as this supposed loving parent to his child, but no he cast a bottle on the water and it lands up on the shore of the Middle East first, then Europe and later the U.S.A. Countless shores it doesn't reach for millennia. There are some shores it hasn't reached yet, but not for crazy humans trying. If that doesn't show the lack of care of a perfect God I don't know what would. Such a lonely Guy.
I'll send an S.O.S. to the world

How many gods are there?
How many Hindu gods are there?
- 330 million (33 crores) i.e. too many to list.
How many Egyptian Gods are there? Approximately 64 Egyptian. Short list:
- Osiris
- Amun, Re(Ra)
- Nephthys
Actually by the time the xtains/coptics had come along in the mid 400's there was record of over 2000 deities worshipped in Ancient Egypt. Almost every village in Egypt had their own gods. Every time a new Pharaoh came into power the whole culture recognised his gods as the best so they were always changing.
How many Celtic (Druid) gods are there?
- 24 gods and 49 goddesses - local country gods, examples Welsh, British, Breton, Continental European.
How many major Roman gods are there?
- Jupiter
- Neptune
- Pluto
- Juno
- Minerva
- Mars
- Apollo
- Diana
- Venus
- Ceres
- Bacchus
- Vulcan
- Mercury
- Vesta
How many major Greek gods are there?
- Zeus
- Hera
- Poseidon
- Demeter
- Hestia
- Aphrodite
- Apollo
- Ares
- Artemis
- Athena
- Hephaestus
- Hermes
How many Islamic gods are there? One
- Allah
How many Jewish gods are there? One, maybe more
- Jehovah. The book of Genesis reads "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness".
How many Christian gods are there? One to Three (trinity) to 10,000
- Christian churches say there is one god, but each has its own view of that one god and of course He favors their church over others. Christianity pretends it is monotheist and but it is no difference than each village in ancient times having its' own god like Egypt where the Judeo-Christian tradition began.
- Catholicism has almost 7000 saints which are god-like. They have all kinds of odd vocations - for whales & test takers and against caterpillars, hangovers & SDTs.
The count of gods is moving closer to the actual number - ZERO.
I contend that we are both atheist. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.
- Stephen Henry Roberts
Whoops forgot one more.
How many Buddhist gods are there? ZERO
A well known koan of Buddhism is "If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him!" Too bad the above religions didn't follow suit with their gods.

Pope cover up - will justice be served?
So you think Pope Benedict XVI, Joseph Ratzinger, crime of hiding pedophiles is something new? We got spoiled to some degree from the prior Pope, John Paul II, who in comparison was a decent great ape. The Popes have been evil bastards for a very long time. Power totally corrupts them. They take vows of poverty but check out their crib. How many rich people live in a place like this?
I went to see this a few years back. It is amazing to walk towards it because at first it does not seem so big, but then you go Good Lawdy, Lawdy, I should be the Pope. Humility really pays off. Jesus said he had no where to lay his head, not so for his representative on earth.
Remember the Popes are the Vicar of Christ, Jesus' holy representative. St Peter was the first Pope and this is the Bible text to prove it, a quote from Jesus.
Matthew 16:18-19
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
For comparison here are some real bastards who were Pope.
Pope (year of reign)
Stephen VII (896-897)
Brutally murdered his predecessor. He was later imprisoned and strangled to death.
John XII (937-964)
Gave land to a mistress, murdered several people and was killed by a jealous husband when he found the Pope in bed with his wife. He made a toast to the devil with wine. When he gambled he asked Jupiter and Venus to bless him.
Benedict IX (1032-1044, 1045, 1047-1048)
He sold the Papacy because he wanted to get married, selling it to his godfather, Gregory VI. With regret he returned to Rome and re-claimed the throne. Many continued to recognize Gregory VI as the true pope. Benedict was accused of adultery and murders.
Urban II (1088-1099)
Many Catholic priest were getting married. Urban would have none of this so he imprisoned them for life and sold their wives and children into slavery.
Gregory IX (1227-1241)
He burned many heretics.
Boniface VIII (1294-1303)
Lampooned in Dante's Divine Comedy. He decreed the only way to salvation was to acknowledge him as the vicar of Christ. He had a major feud with France's King Philip IV which ultimately lead to Boniface ex-communicating Philip and Philip having Boniface almost to beaten to death.
Urban VI (1378-1389)
Tortured Cardinals who conspired against him and complained he did not hear enough screaming. He wrote an edict that evangelism was to be done by force and arms if needed.
Alexander VI (1431-1503)
He collected money for indulgences and to make men cardinals. While off to war he put his daughter Lucrezia in charge of the Holy See. He later arranged a marriage for his daughter to a very wealthy Duke and it is written in some papal documents he had a son with his own daughter.
Sixtus IV (1471-1484)
Heavy into nepotism, making two of his nephews cardinals and title and money to other relatives. He sold licenses for brothels, taxed priests who kept mistresses and sold indulgences for the dead to their grieving loved ones.
Innocent VIII (1484-1492)
He opening acknowledged his mistress and illegitimate children. Gave money, titles and land to whoever he chose. He tortured and burned witches.
Alexander VI (1492-1503)
Used bribery to move up the heirarchy. Lots of nepotism including the teenage brother of his mistress who later became Paul III. Suspected of orgies and murder of his rivals. Married off his daughter three times to build alliances and murdered the man she wanted to marry.
Leo X (1513-1521)
His spending bankrupted the papacy in two years. He pawned St Peter's furnishing and licensed more brothels. His lifestyle encouraged Martin Luther to post his 95 Thesis.
Clement VII (1523-1534)
His politics with France, Spain and Germany caused Rome to get sacked.
Paul III (1534-1549)
See Alexander VI above. He made his two teenage grandson's cardinals. He was free with the ladies. He ex-communicated King Henry VIII of England.
Julius III (1550-1555)
Into nepotism, gluttony, gambling. He made one of his male lovers a cardinal.
Pious XII (1939-1958)
Anti-Semitic, racist and was nicknamed Hitler's Pope.
A horrible lot. Many crimes unpunished. Will this Pope pay for his horrid crime? History shows no, but one can hope.
Does being a believer make you a better person? Would it motivate you to even turn in a pedophile?
