ReplyDeleteNot only do birds communicate, dolphins, whales, elephants, monkeys, dogs, cats, bees, ants, communicate to each other on a regular basis, humans are not unique in the world of communicating.
God gave DM two ears and one mouth. He only knows how to use his mouth.
ReplyDeleteThere is also mis-communication among animals. With bees for instance. Bees from different locations 'dance' slightly differently to indicate the distance of pollen sources. So that when two cultures of bees try to communicate, they often over or under shoot the location. This is because communication isn't some kind instinctive/mechanical animal response, but one learned by intelligent beings who exist in a specific environment.

Animal communication is fascinating, and so much more unique and advanced than we give it credit for. The fact that apes can, for instance, learn human language through sign language is pretty impressive, given the many differences in their physical capabilities and the fact that they are often pulled from their homes and placed in artificial living environments for these experiments. But their environmentally-based communications, out in nature with their groups, are so much more impressive and elaborate than learning how to press a button on a computer that indicates they want an apple. These experiments show exactly what you are writing about... humans not only devalue animal communication, but also assume that our variety of communication is at the apex.
And this in spite of the fact that we know shockingly little about animal communication.
We certainly are full of ourselves. This tiny spec in the vast universe and the great variety of life on earth and God ignores all that and makes us his special creation. How convenient for us. Because of Adam and Eve eating a piece of fruit all creation has fallen into extreme depths of suffering. Wow. We humans are so powerful. I smell B.S.
