Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev, composer, conductor and pianist, was born April 23, 1891 and died March 5, 1953
My favorite work of his is Alexander Nevsky. Here is an excerpt.
José Serebrier conducting the Sydney Symphony Orchestra
Basis of the work: Aggressive Swedish feudals wanted to benefit from Russia's weakness after the Mongol invasion and to capture Russia's access to the Baltic. The young Novgorodian prince Alexander Nevsky met the invaders on the shores of the Neva River and inflicted a heavy defeat on them.
