Atheists Donation Rejected By American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society (ACS) recently turned down a donation from the Foundation Beyond Belief (FBB), an organization that supports atheist causes, even though the Foundation had offered to sponsor up to 100 teams for the ACS’s Relay For Life fundraiser. Tod Stiefel, who was organizing the effort, had offered to match any proceeds up to $250,000. At first, ACS seemed to welcome the pledge but then they reversed themselves, saying that they only allowed “national teams” (which receive high-profile exposure at the events) from corporations and not nonprofits.

ACS updated members with this statement… “It’s clear that the American Cancer Society and Foundation Beyond Belief share a passion for saving lives,” the update said. “We welcome FBB’s participation at our local Relay For Life events and we have not turned down their donations. We have shared this information with FBB and hope they know we welcome their ongoing support and involvement.” The statement neatly sidesteps the issue of ACS providing profile to FBB of course.

Seminary professor Brandon Withrow writes for the Huffington Post, “The last time I checked, atheists are human beings plagued with all the same ills of humanity; cancer is no respecter of persons. And while most people would likely understand not taking money from recognized criminal and terrorist organizations, this situation does not apply. So is ACS essentially slapping the hand of the Good Samaritan because he is not a believer? God Of The Week - Enki (start of week)

A few weeks back a friend invited me to a ride on Skyline Drive. We settled on this past Thursday. The weather was quite dicey, in fact on Wednesday we got lots of rain. Riding is for fun. If you get caught in the rain that is one thing but if you start out in the rain it's a real drag.

Anyway Thursday morning weathermen were showing 30% chance of rain. It was cold and blustery. Going up on Skyline you can expect it to be 20 degrees colder. Wet and Cold ain't my thing.

So, I headed out to met him at the southern end of Skyline. Working my way the thought hit me, maybe I should pick a god of the week and pray to it to see if anything happens. As you know Jehovah is a jealous god and gets very pissed if you worship any other god. So I thought I would make a test and keep it clean so I don't get killed by a lightening bolt or something.

Recently I have been reading Sumerian text. This scripture predates the Bible and surely inspired the writers of the Bible directly and indirectly. One god who appeals to me is Enki. In the Sumerian story of the flood, Enki was the god who saves mankind after the flood. That seems way cooler than Jehovah who used the flood to kill mankind. And a god who is looking out for me is someone I can put my trust in.

Anyway I prayed to Enki and found comfort in it. I thanked him for my day and and my righteous Ducati and the opportunity to ride it this day.

I started to get nervous as I progressed. I had just looked at my maps at home but didn't bring them with me. I started to worry that I had missed my turn and now would be hopelessly lost messing up the timing of our ride together. So I prayed to Enki and said please help me find my way and not get lost at all. Now I thought I should address Jehovah, but you know the guy is a pisser so like an evil genie you must be careful with your request. I prayed to Jehovah that I would get very lost and even requested with a smile I would even wind up in Alabama. I figured that wouldn't be too bad and make a great story. It certainly would be warmer and I hopefully would still be alive. So I continued on for miles and miles really thinking I had messed up, still imploring both gods, respectively. Then on the horizon there it was my turn. Enki had come through for me and either Jehovah was snoozing or he isn't as jealous as Moses thought.

As I approached the southern end of Skyline I saw my friend waiting for me and I thanked Enki for this. I asked my friend how long he had waited because I was running late. He said only 10 minutes. That made me happy that I had been so blessed by Enki.

I prayed to Enki for a safe ride and that we would not hit any critters. I decided I didn't want to talk to Jehovah about this and you can figure out why. I would just rely on Enki.

Also I did pray to Enki that it would not rain on us. I did pray to Jehovah that we would get a pouring rain, you know, really messing up the trip, as is his wont. Since Jehovah was the flood maker and Enki was the one who helped mankind afterwards it seemed like a pretty good request. All through the 3 hour ride I kept up these dual prayers.

It periodically would threaten rain, but at most there was a tiny spit that both my friend and I asked each do you see that? But you can tell from the pictures that it was a pleasant trip. Thank you Lord Enki.

My plan is to continue to pray to Enki for a week and then look for another god in some subsequent week.

I went to the Family Radio website and found an audio done by Harold Camping a few weeks back. If you listen to it you see if you think like I do he is on his meds. He now says he thinks it is Oct 21, 2011, but God is no respecter of persons. He does change his story. It will be quiet this time. So, it is not falsifiable. Wednesday morning marked the beginning of the trial of Shannon and Dale Hickman, who are charged with second-degree manslaughter in the September 2009 death of their newborn son. David Hickman died less than nine hours after being born, of staph pneumonia, pulmonary immaturity, and chorioamnionitis, which affects fetal membranes through a bacterial infection.

The Hickmans belong to the Followers of Christ Church, an Oregon City congregation that believes in faith-healing over medical care. The church has a long history in Oregon of child deaths involving treatable illnesses, which has led to multiple legislative changes eliminating faith-healing as a defense against criminal charges.

In less than three years, four couples, including the Hickmans, have gone to trial for failing to provide adequate medical care to their children. Three of those cases have involved deaths.

Hurrah For Science - My First Earthquake

I felt my first earthquake today. I live near DC and was born here decades ago. After it finished I called my wife and she felt it at her work as well. Someone mentioned the epicenter was near Mineral, VA where my mother lives and by then the lines were jammed up. Eventually she called me seeing I had tried to call her. I just felt my building shake but she had a lot of stuff fall off the walls and out of the cabinets. Fortunately her brother was there and is helping in the clean up.

When it first started to happen I thought someone with a heavy footstep was walking by, then I thought someone must be pushing a cart, then I stood up and we all were looking around watching the lights overhead shake. Then all the chatter began.

My first feeling was how cool. I understand what is going on. I live on the Blue Ridge mountains so I know plates are pushing together here. I felt I was experiencing science in motion if you will. It wasn't until I checked that my wife, kids, grandkid and mother were OK that it hit I never thought of a imaginary god causing it to punish anyone. We know where they can happen and there ain't a god with a grudge out there trying to punish anyone.

Hurrah for science that gave me a real explanation for what goes on in life.

Sarah Brightman (born 14 August 1960) is an English classical crossover soprano, actress, songwriter and dancer. She began her career as a member of the dance troupes Pan's People and Hot Gossip and released several disco singles as a solo performer. In 1981, she made her musical theatre debut in Cats and met composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, whom she married. She went on to star in several Broadway musicals including The Phantom of the Opera, where she played the role of Christine Daaé.

After retiring from the stage and divorcing Lloyd Webber, Brightman resumed her music career with former Enigma producer Frank Peterson, this time as a classical artist. She is among the most prominent performers in the genre, with worldwide sales of more than 30 million albums and over 2 million DVDs. The Recording Industry Association of America has named her the best-selling female classical artist of the twenty-first century in the United States.

Does The Creationist Fossil Record Exist

At talking origins there is the post that describes what the fossil record should look like if the world was created. No wonder the original paleontologists were confused by what they actually found.

Here's what the fossil record should look like if Biblical creationism were true.

1. In the very lowest strata we should see no fossils at all. This is because, according to the Bible, all life originally existed in the Garden of Eden and nothing died there.

2. In the next levels of strata, we should see a fairly constant rate of fossils or a gradually growing rate of fossils. This would reflect the time after the Fall as life progressed all over the Earth. These strata should have fossils of all types of organisms, both bacteria and larger more complex organisms because all of them coexisted. We should see more mobile species such as horses at the bottom of the fossil record throughout most of the world because those species would be able to migrate to places far away from the Garden of Eden more quickly than less mobile species. In fact we should be able to use this layer of strata to help discover the location of the Garden of Eden. The closer that any particular rocks are to the original location of the Garden of Eden, the earlier fossils should appear. (It should take species longer to get far away from the Garden and die than it should be for species to die close to the Garden.)

3. At some point as we move up through the strata we should see a sudden massive intrusion of fossils. This would represent the 40 days and 40 nights of the flood. This layer should also include archaeological artifacts such as tools because humans existed and would not have escaped with their tools. This should be present because of the large number of organisms (nearly every living creature on Earth) that died suddenly under conditions ideal for fossilization. (A flood is the very best environment for preserving fossils.) We should be able to show that all of these fossils are in the same strata all over the world.

4. Immediately above this sudden intrusion of fossils, we should see a thin layer of marine fossils. This would represent the year when, according to the Bible, the Earth was covered with water. This layer of fossils should be present everywhere since the flood was global in nature.

5. As we move up beyond this point in the strata, we should see a fossil gap; the size of the gap should vary depending on the geographical distance that a particular rock formation is from Mount Ararat - the final resting place of the Ark according to the Bible. As was the case immediately after the Fall, it would take some time for slow moving organisms to get very far away from where the Ark came to rest.

6. This pattern should exist all over the World.

In fact, of course, it exists nowhere on Earth.

Creationism --> totally falsified by the fossil record.
