When I say I am an atheist the fundie retorts "You are going to Hell". I tell them they shouldn't judge as their holy book says. They then disavow and say it is not me judging you but the bible/God that is judging you. I really hate that. They hide behind the bible's skirt and have no humility. There are many stories in the bible about how the believers were wrong. They entirely miss the point of those. I tried very hard to believe, but the cognitive dissonance was way too strong for me to deny. I am far happier being honest and if there is a god and he doesn't honor that then he is simply evil.ex-minister1https://www.blogger.com/profile/17018356792881679541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2737216112485129669.post-10708335612033765842012-11-07T12:35:23.234-05:002012-11-07T12:35:23.234-05:00Dear Bro. I am a born again Christian myself, but you have pointed out quite well the errors Christians make by their presumptions and lack of knowledge of other religions. I believe in Jesus because I am a sinner that only the Grace of God can save. Sin dwells within us by decent from our first parents. Christians call it Original sin. This is what makes us do evil things, wrong choices, etc. Perhaps Hinduism does not really call a person a sinner. But it does speak about Prarabda Karma (same as Original sin if you study its consequences) and the role of the Avatar in removing this by his Grace and Sacrifice. This is what I see in Jesus. Moreover, religion is all about experience. You may get the semantics right, but if it does not benefit you, what is the use of saying "I am a Hindu/Christian/Muslim?" I believe it is better for you not to believe anything unless you are convinced thoroughly about the truthfulness of what you believe in. But don't deny faith altogether. Best be an agnostic until truth convinces you. But I think you missed out on big part of Hinduism. you say that you got everything you wanted. Ever thought about your previous birth, you might have done some very good deeds in your previous birth. And about Krishna not coming even though more then 6 million Jews were murdered by hitler, I can give you many possible explanations, one of them is, god also said that we have to try our selves before he can help us. God said that we have to fight adharma with all we got, and even then adharma dominates, then I(The God) will come to the aid of mankind. and as we know, hitler was stopped. And what about those jews, we can never be sure that all of those people were righteous. god also meant that adharma must win over dharma in all aspects for god to come to aid of mankind. And last but the strongest argument of mine, Hinduism can be proven by science and many aspects of Hinduism have been proven through parapsychology(reincarnation for example). Have you ever thought that may be you interpreted the Gita in wrong way? I had never read Gita before, but after I came to USA, I read it by myself on internet. I still don't see any thing different when you say that you are Atheistic. you know you don't have to believe in god to be Hindu. if you know the Vedas and you believe that Vedas hold even a bit of truth, then you can be atheistic and still be Hindu.
